Oxford, AL – On October 16, 2025, at approximately 7:30pm, the Oxford Police Department received a call for a possible robbery in progress in the 1700 block of Hamrick Drive. The suspect, identified as Terrell McCain, entered the Charlies Tobacco Outlet produced a handgun, and approached the store clerk and demanded money. During the exchange McCain discharged the firearm but did not hit the clerk.
An officer that was patrolling in the area was able to respond rapidly and entered the parking lot prior to McCain exiting the building. As McCain did exit, he was still holding the handgun in his hand and was met by Oxford Police. The officer commanded McCain to drop the weapon and he complied. McCain remained compliant with the officers and was taken into custody without any further incident.
Oxford Deputy Chief, Daniel Phipps, stated, “The clerk was the only person in the store during the robbery and there were, thankfully, no injuries.” He went on to say, “We are fortunate to have a larger department and were able to respond rapidly. We are extremely proud of our officers who were able to take this person into custody.”
Terrell McCain was booked into the Calhoun County Jail and charged with Attempted Murder – $50,000 cash bond, Robbery 1st – Weapon – No Bond, and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm – $10,000 bond. McCain is currently being held until he faces a Calhoun County Judge next week regarding an “Aniha’s Law” hearing to determine his bond status.
