Oxford, AL – The City of Oxford and Historic Main Street Oxford celebrated the openings of two new businesses on Friday, June 27, 2025, with ribbon-cutting ceremonies marking the official launch of La Michoacana Homemade Ice Cream and Snacks and Longleaf Books and Bindery.
La Michoacana, located at 2024 U.S. Highway 78 East, Suite A, offers a wide selection of frozen treats and snacks. The menu includes ice cream, popsicles, fruity water, and traditional Mexican snacks, along with a specialty item—Dubai strawberry chocolates—a blend of chocolate, sweet strawberry, and pistachio cream. Owned and operated by Maria, Juan, and Martin Murillo, the business brings a new dessert destination to Oxford’s east side.
Mayor Alton Craft expressed support for the new addition, noting the demand for an ice cream shop among local students. “Since the ice cream store closed downtown, all the school kids have been asking for a new ice cream store,” said Craft. “You can’t get enough ice cream. Thank you for coming to Oxford, and if the city can do anything for you, let us know.”
La Michoacana is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and maintains a presence on Facebook for updates and customer engagement.

In downtown Oxford, Longleaf Books and Bindery officially opened its doors at 30 East Choccolocco Street. Located in the heart of the historic district, the shop adds to the area’s cultural and retail offerings, though details on its hours and offerings were not immediately provided.

Both ribbon cuttings were supported by Historic Main Street Oxford and attended by city officials, business leaders, and community members.
