Piedmont, AL –  On April 1, 2024, at approximately 7:25 PM, the Piedmont Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at 122 Taylor St. The call indicated that a female and her children inside the residence were in need of assistance. Upon arrival, officers heard yelling and crying from inside the home. Despite attempts to establish communication, a male occupant refused to open the door and dismissed the officers’ concerns.

The situation escalated when the male barricaded the door and refused to allow the officers to check on the well-being of those inside. Piedmont Investigators, along with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and the CCSO Special Response Team (SRT), were called to assist with the barricaded subject, later identified as Nicholas Joseph Lynn, a 41-year-old from Orlando, FL.

Communication with Lynn was limited, but it was revealed that he had active warrants related to aggravated domestic violence charges involving the female victim. As officers breached the door, Lynn attempted to resist but ultimately fled further into the residence. The female victim and four juveniles were safely evacuated from the home.

A thorough search revealed that Lynn had retreated beneath the house, prompting further efforts to coax him out. After multiple attempts, Lynn agreed to surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Piedmont Police Department before being transferred to the Calhoun County Jail.

Lynn will face charges of domestic violence burglary in the second degree involving attempted kidnapping, in addition to a fugitive from justice warrant pending a hearing at the Calhoun County Court.

The Piedmont Police Department expressed gratitude to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Oxford Police Department and Jacksonville Police Department for their support during the incident. Collaboration between agencies was instrumental in achieving a safe resolution without injury to anyone involved.

The community of Piedmont is commended for their cooperation while law enforcement carried out their duties. The incident underscores the commitment of local agencies to ensuring the safety and protection of all residents, regardless of the challenges faced.

For further updates or inquiries, residents are encouraged to contact the Piedmont Police Department.
