Calhoun County, AL – Donoho sweeps five foes to win its Classic; Oxford gets to finals of Husky Challenge, Ohatchee wins Wellborn Invitational
Donoho swept five matches without dropping a set Saturday to win the Donoho Classic. The Lady Falcons (23-7) took down Spring Garden in the finals, 26-15, 25-23. They also defeated Faith Christian, Westminster-Oak Mountain and Cleburne County. Lily Grace Draper led the Lady Falcons (23-7) with 34 kills, 13 aces and 20 digs. Mary Marshall Perry had 22 kills and eight aces, Ryals Jones had 18 kills and 12 blocks. And Sam Wakefield had 15 kills, 89 assists and 16 digs. and 13 aces. Cherokee County won the Silver Bracket.
Husky Challenge
TRUSSVILLE – Oxford went 4-2 and lost to Hillcrest 25-18, 20-25, 8-15 in the Gold Bracket championship match of the Newitt-Trussville Husky Challenge. The Lady Jackets are 14-14 on the season. Payton Brooks had a busy day for the Lady Jackets, recording 35 digs and 110 assists. Abbie Mitchell had 41 kills, 15 digs and 11 blocks. Sadie Grace Morrison had 15 kills and 12 blocks Jaslyn Montgomery had 33 kills, six digs and 10 blocks. Pleasant Valley went 3-1, sweeping Mortimer Jordan, Gadsden City and Oxford before falling to Hillcrest in two sets in the Gold Bracket semifinals.
Lily Henry and Allie Bryant had 49 and 45 kills, respectively. Maddie Schwabe had 81 assists and 10 aces, while Bryant added 40 assists and 15 aces.
Wellborn Invitational
Piedmont went 3-2 and lost to Ohatchee in the championship match, 25-12, 25-14. TaLeaha Ridley had 32 kills, Armoni Perry had 16 kills and Jaycee Glover distributed 69 assists. White Plains went 3-2 in the tournament, losing only to the two eventual finalists.
