Strutting in Support: Anniston Police “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” for Charity Event

Charity Walk

Anniston, AL – This past weekend, the Anniston Police Foundation and the Anniston Police Department hosted the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” charity walk to raise awareness and funds to combat domestic violence. The event, held to benefit 2nd Chance, Inc., drew a strong turnout and proved to be both impactful and enjoyable for participants.

Investigator Doug White of the Anniston Police Department, one of the event organizers, spoke with the Calhoun Journal about the significance of the walk. “We see the results of domestic violence unfortunately on a regular basis. It is often something people are ashamed to ask for help for or feel they can’t ask for help. 2nd Chance has and is continuing to do an amazing job working on this issue, and if we can be uncomfortable for a little bit and raise some money and awareness, it is 100% worth it,” White said.

“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” was designed to be a fun and engaging way to address a serious issue. Participants donned high heels and walked a mile, symbolizing the challenges faced by victims of domestic violence. The event successfully highlighted the importance of supporting those affected and encouraged community involvement in finding solutions.

Cathy Lillo of the Anniston Police Foundation shared that donations are still being tallied, but every dollar raised is going to 2nd Chance. “The foundation has donated $2,400 as of this article, but we know more is coming in,” Lillo said. She emphasized the ongoing need for support and the positive impact of community contributions.

2nd Chance, Inc. is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The funds raised from this event will help further their mission, providing essential services and resources to those in need.

The success of this year’s walk has inspired the organizers to make it an annual event. “All parties involved are looking to make this an annual event,” White confirmed. The enthusiasm and support from the community suggest that “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” will continue to grow and make a difference in the fight against domestic violence.

The Anniston Police Foundation and the Anniston Police Department extend their heartfelt thanks to all participants, donors, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive, and the hope is that this will lead to greater awareness and more resources for 2nd Chance, Inc.
