WEAVER — Weaver’s Dalton Fink has grown from the 106-pound bracket to 190 over his high school wrestling career.
Just enough to fit into his first most-valuable wrestler belt.
The senior swept through his bracket in the Gene Taylor Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday, pinning Piedmont’s Bentley Chandler in the final. Coaches voted Fink the tournament’s most valuable wrestler.
Defending Class 1A-4A state champion Tallassee repeated as Gene Taylor champion, winning five weight classes on the way to 237 points.
Weaver, the reigning Class 1A-4A state runner up after winning three consecutive state titles, took second at 167.5.
