Ohatchee

Ohatchee, AL – The Ohatchee Town Council meeting focused on public safety, community events and upcoming projects, including a check presentation supporting the town’s rapid response program and early planning for the town’s July 3 celebration.

During the meeting, East Alabama Emergency Medical Services CEO John Blue presented the town with a $35,000 check to support Ohatchee’s rapid response vehicle program. Town officials said the funding, combined with previous support from Alabama Power, has nearly covered the cost of the vehicle itself. Officials stated the full investment in the program, including equipment and supplies, totaled more than $83,000.

Blue spoke about the importance of emergency response access in smaller communities, sharing how his own grandfather died waiting on an ambulance when he was younger. He said the experience led him to dedicate his career to improving emergency services in communities across Alabama.

Town officials and emergency personnel also highlighted the impact the rapid response program is already making locally. During the meeting, representatives noted that residents have continued to praise the service and response times. A story shared during the discussion described a recent emergency response at Otter Creek where responders reportedly arrived within six to eight minutes.
