Here is a quick look at the girls competition in this week’s Calhoun County Track and Field Championships at Choccolocco Park

Editor’s Note: The Calhoun County Track & Field Championships had been scheduled for Wednesday. Because of possible bad weather and availability of officials, county administrators have moved the event to Monday.

100M – Oxford junior Keziah Mickler (season best 12.89) finished second in 2021, junior Layla Carter (season best 12.93) of Weaver finished fourth and Ohatchee’s Jorda Crook (season best 13.28) finished eighth. Sophomore Jordyn Walker (season best of 13.04) of Alexandria will be trying to break into the top finishers. Carter is ranked third in the state in 3A, Crook 12th in 3A. Walker 12th in 5A.

200M – Sophomore Jordyn Walker (season best 28.30) of Alexandria finished second last year, Layla Carter (season best 28.25) of Weaver finished third and junior Keziah Mickler of Oxford finished 4th. In addition, junior Jorda Crook (season best of 27.33) of Ohatchee and sophomore Kierra Foster (season best of 27.35) of Anniston will be battling for the top spots. Crook finished ninth last year.

400M – Junior Jordyn Walker (season best 1:03.48) finished second last year and senior Lanecia Moore (season best 1:05.72) finished sixth. Sophomore Kiarra Foster (season best of 1:04.03) of Anniston and junior Chaci Whitfield (personal best 1:04.31) will also be fighting to be on the podium. Walker is ranked ninth in the state in 5A.

800M – Senior Jacksonville State commit Anna Strickland (season best 2:28.19) of White Plains will be defending her title against some other tough runners including Oxford junior Katie Keur (season best 2:25.35), White Plains freshman teammate Maddyn Conn (season best 2:32.74) and Alexandria runners senior Michaela Waters (season best 2:37.82) and junior Michaela Moore (season best 2:35.81). Strickland is ranked first and Conn fifth in the state in 4A. Keur is ranked ninth in the state in 6A.

1600M – Anna Strickland (season best 5:27.40) of White Plains will be defending her title against teammate freshman Maddyn Conn (season best 5:17.72) and Oxford runners junior Katie Keur (season best 5:24.80) and freshman Emerson Maniscalco (season best 5:39.92). Conn is ranked first and Strickland third in the state in 4A. Keur is tenth in 6A.

3200M – Junior Michaela Moore (season best of 13:07.49) will be defending her 2021 title against some tough competition including White Plains freshman Maddyn Conn (season best 11:23.01) and senior Anna Strickland (season best 11:40) and Oxford junior Katie Keur (personal best 11:38.18) and freshman Emerson Maniscalco (season best 11:56.20). Maniscalco finished sixth and Keur seventh in 2021. Freshman Sarah Sloughfy (season best 13:20.17) of Jacksonville finished fourth in last year’s competition. Conn and Strickland are ranked 1-2 in the state in 4A. Keur is fifth and Maniscalco eighth in 6A.

100 Hurdles – Junior Olivia Penson (season best 18.94) of Anniston, senior Hannah Barbee (season best 18.88) of Piedmont and sophomore Alayia D’Ambrosia (season best 19.08) of Weaver will be fighting for the top spot. Barbee is ranked fifth and D’Ambrosia is eighth in the state in 3A.

300 Hurdles – Sophomore Shaniya Calloway (season best 56.36) of White Plains will be defending her 2021 title against juniors Chaci Whitfield (season best 51.42) of Oxford and Olivia Penson (season best 55.77) of Anniston.

Discus – Senior Gracie George (season best throw of 88-5) of Ohatchee finished second and senior Hallee Waters (season best throw of 72-3) of White Plains fifth last year. They will be battling for the best toss against eighth-grader Tyasha Hunt (season best throw of 91.10) and sophomore Danashia Woods (season best throw of 87-6.5) of Alexandria. George is ranked third in the state in 3A.

High Jump – Juniors Jorda Crook (season best jump of 5-2) of Ohatchee and Chaci Whitfield (season best jump of 4-10) of Oxford finished 1-2 in 2021. They will be battling each other and senior Angel Bozarth (season best jump of 5-0) of White Plains, sophomore Estella Connell (season best jump of 4-10) of Donoho, junior Reygan White (season best jump of 4-6) of Oxford and junior Ashllyn Adderhold (season best jump of 4-6) of Piedmont. White finished fourth in 2021. Connell is ranked second in the state in 1A, Crook fifth in 3A and Whitfield tied for 12th in 6A.

Javelin – Senior Halle Nance (season best throw of 86-4) of White Plains finished fourth in 2021. She will have to fight off juniors Mia Waters (season best throw of 100-11) and Jordan Crook (season best throw of 104-8) of Ohatchee, senior White Plains teammate Angel Bozarth (season best throw of 97-7) and senior Gracie George (season best throw of 90-1) of Ohatchee for the top spot. Crook is ranked third and Waters fifth in the state in 3A.

Long Jump – Junior Jordyn Walker (season best jump of 16-3) of Alexandria finished second and Donoho sophomore Estella Connell (season best jump of 15-0) third in 2021. They will be competing with senior Victoria Moses (season best jump of 15-9) of Jacksonville, Oxford senior Adrionna Foster (season best jump of 15-2) of Oxford and Oxford junior Reygan White (season best jump of 15-1.5). White finished seventh in 2021. Connell is ranked second in the state in 1A.

Triple Jump – Sophomore Estella Connell (season best jump of 32-5) of Donoho finished second and junior Reygan White (season best jump of 32-7) of Oxford finished third last year. They will be trying to outjump White Plains senior Angel Bozarth (season best jump of 30-8), Piedmont junior Ashllyn Adderhold (season best 31-8) and Jacksonville senior Victoria Moses (season best jump of 28-9.5). Adderhold finished fourth in 2021. Connell is ranked second in the state in 1A.

Pole Vault – Last year Junior Ashllyn Adderhold (season best 7-6.6) of Piedmont finished second, Denver Browning (season best 7-6) of Alexandria finished fourth, senior Dena Musa (season best 8-0) of Donoho fifth and Maleah Hill (season best of 7-0) of White Plains sixth 6th. They will be challenged by Piedmont sophomore Lexi Ray (season best 8-6), Ohatchee teammates freshman Brooklyn Fordham (season best 7-6) and junior Coalie Easterwood (season best 7-0). Dena Musa of Donoho is ranked first in the state in 1A, Ray is second in 3A and Aderhold and Fordham are tied for 5th in 3A.

Shot Put – Senior Gracie George (season best 36-7) of Ohatchee will be defending her 2021 title against last year’s runnerup junior Victoria Turner (season best 24-11) of Pleasant Valley and third-place finisher eighth-grader Mariah Munford (season best 30-1) of Alexandria. Munford’s teammates, 8th-grader Tyasha Hunt (season best 30-10) and sophomore Aubrey Christian (season best 26-10) will also be fighting for the top spot. George is ranked first in the state in 3A.

4×100 Relay – Oxford (season best 52.82) and Anniston (season best 54.52) should be battling for first, but Weaver (56.21), Alexandria (56.85), or Ohatchee (56.97) could sneak into a top position.

4×400 Relay – Anniston (season best 4:31.90) is leading Alexandria (season best 4:39.73) and Oxford (season best 4:42.70) for the top spot, followed by Jacksonville (season best 4:48.51).

4×800 Relay – Alexandria is ranked second in the state in 5A with a 10:39.58. The Valley Cubs are followed by Jacksonville’s second-ranked 4A team with a season best 11:17.70. They lead Pleasant Valley’s season best of 12:37.80, Anniston’s season best of 12:51.09, and Oxford’s season best of 12:57.01.  [*** read more]
