Two Anniston Residents Charged in Cleburne County Fentanyl Trafficking Investigation

Three Arrested in Fentanyl Trafficking Investigation in Cleburne County

Heflin, AL — On July 17, 2025, the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit, executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence on 4th Street West as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal drug activity.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized a trafficking quantity of fentanyl along with other narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Three individuals were taken into custody without incident.

The following individuals were arrested and charged with Felony – Trafficking Fentanyl:

  • James Bryant Elder, 51, of Fruithurst, AL

  • Troy Watson Garrett, 54, of Anniston, AL

  • Mindy Lou Stitcher, 45, of Anniston, AL

Each suspect is being held on a $300,000 bond related to the trafficking charge.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Cleburne County Sheriff Jon Daniel acknowledged the work of his department and partner agencies, stating, “I’m extremely proud of the work our Deputies put into this case and grateful for the help we received from the 7th Judicial Major Crimes Unit. This is a clear reminder of how serious we are about tackling illegal drug activity in our county. We’re going to keep going after anyone who brings dangerous drugs into Cleburne County.”
