U.S. Senator Questions Education Secretary Over Campus Safety for Jewish Students

U.S. Senator Katie Britt Presses Biden Administration to Protect Jewish Students on College Campuses

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, directed questions to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona on the Biden Administration’s handling of safety concerns for Jewish students on college campuses across America.

Senator Britt initiated her inquiry by referencing a series of letters she sent to Secretary Cardona since October, urging the Department of Education to uphold its responsibilities under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In the wake of Hamas’ attacks on Israel on October 7, there has been a noticeable increase in antisemitic protests on college campuses throughout the United States. Senator Britt underscored the lack of meaningful and urgent action by the Biden Administration to address perpetrators of antisemitic harassment and threats of violence. She cited recent incidents, such as open calls for the extermination of Jewish people and demonstrators obstructing Jewish students from accessing campus facilities, which have garnered widespread attention. Senator Britt highlighted that these occurrences have primarily taken place at prestigious academic institutions, describing the situation as a “national disgrace” and “a disservice to America’s future.”

Additionally, Senator Britt voiced her opposition to the Biden Administration’s new Title IX rules, particularly as they relate to her concerns as a mother of a female student-athlete.
