Collins began her career with United Way as an Information & Referral Specialist before moving into an administrative position and later into finance and accounting.

During her tenure, Collins has participated in 40 annual fundraising campaigns and 40 community allocation processes. Her work has spanned periods of organizational growth, new programs, financial challenges and leadership transitions.

United Way President and CEO Shannon Jenkins described Collins as part of the organization’s “foundational strength,” citing the continuity and institutional knowledge she has provided throughout her career.

Collins’ responsibilities have included managing budgets, assisting with audits and overseeing financial processes connected to resources distributed to programs and community partners throughout East Central Alabama.

Those resources have supported a range of United Way initiatives, including programs providing books to children, connecting families with assistance, creating opportunities for young people and supporting residents experiencing difficult circumstances.

Collins has also played a role in United Way’s financial transparency and accountability practices, which the organization says have received national recognition.

“You will not find a person with more integrity than Lynn Collins,” Jenkins said during the celebration.

United Way officials said Collins’ impact extends beyond her financial responsibilities, pointing to her experience, consistency and commitment to the organization’s mission.

The Lifetime of Excellence Award recognizes Collins’ four decades of service and her contributions to United Way of East Central Alabama and the communities it serves.
