CALHOUN COUNTY, AL — Since its opening in February, the Martha Vandervoort Center to End Homelessness—known as Martha’s Hope—has served more than 200 individuals and families in Calhoun County with emergency shelter, case management, and mental health services. The facility, operated by the United Way of East Central Alabama, aims to provide long-term solutions and support to those experiencing homelessness.
Now, United Way is approaching the final days of a critical fundraising opportunity that could significantly increase support for the center. Through Friday, June 13, all donations to Martha’s Hope will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000, by a group of private donors. As of the latest update, $31,302 has been raised, leaving $18,698 needed to unlock the full matching funds.
The organization emphasizes that these funds are vital to continuing and expanding services at Martha’s Hope, including shelter access, on-site support, and pathways to long-term housing stability.
Donations can be made securely online at uweca.org/donatehope, and pledges can be arranged by contacting United Way directly. The campaign encourages supporters to give before the deadline to maximize the impact of their contribution.
United Way officials express gratitude to those who have already contributed and urge the community to help them meet their goal before the Friday deadline.
