Weaver head football coach Ken Cofer has been placed on administrative leave and was not be on the sideline for the Bearcats’ home game against Ohatchee.

Current assistant coach Michael Spurling will serve as interim head coach, Weaver principal Tracy Brazier said.

Calhoun County superintendent Tony Willlis is out of town, but Board of Education president Mike Webb acknowledged Cofer’s status. Webb did not specify reasons.

“Obviously, we hold our faculty and our staff to a very high standard,” Webb said. “This is an internal decision that was made by the administration, and I anticipate that Coach Cofer will be back on the sideline this season.”:

Webb said the board will hear Brazier’s recommendation at Thursday’s board meeting.

“Technically, it has not been brought to the board until Thursday,” Webb said. “At that point, the board will hear the administration’s decision.”
