A little after 7:00 pm the Weaver Police Department was dispatched to a possible domestic violence issue. Upon arrival the officers were met with gunfire. No officers were struck during the initial shooting and they requested immediate assistance.
The request for help went out to surrounding police agencies who all responded rapidly. Jacksonville Police Department, Calhoun Sheriff’s Office, Oxford Police Department, Ohatchee Police Department and Anniston Police Department were all on scene to provide support.
Numerous gunshots were heard coming from the residence on Baily Rd where the suspect was located inside a residence. Some local residents have stated they heard up to 50 shots during the incident, but law enforcement has not been able to confirm this number.
Police agencies from around the are sent in tactical units and supporting patrol officers to secure the area and keep the surrounding are secure. Crisis Negotiators arrived and attempted to establish contact with the unknown person inside via a direct communication system that was delivered into the residence.
The standoff lasted until just after 11:00 when the person inside the residence was located and deceased. An official that did not want to be named stated that the subject appeared to have taken his own life.
No police officers or residents were injured during the multiple shooting interactions with the person inside. A full press release from the Weaver Police Chief is expected in the morning.
