The Mayor and City Council for the City of Weaver, Alabama, met for a regular scheduled Council Meeting on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in the Municipal Court Room at Weaver City Hall, 500 Anniston Street, Weaver, Alabama.

  • Call to Order – Mayor Wayne Willis called the council meeting to order.
  • Invocation – Mayor Pro-Tem Jeff Clendenning gave the invocation.
  • Pledge of Allegiance – Mayor Wayne Willis led the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

  • Department Reports
    • Public Works Department – Director Joey Conger – Mr. Conger presented the council with a quote from Alabama Power for $69.86 per month for two (2) lights to be installed at the new fire station-one (1) flood light and one (1) on an arm to light the bus stop. Mayor Pro-Tem Clendenning made a motion to enter into an agreement with Alabama Power and install, as soon as possible, the above-described lights.  – Unanimously Approved
    • Police Department – Chief Wayne Bush – Chief Bush – No report.
    • Fire Department/Code Enforcement – Chief Brian Bunn – Chief Bunn gave an update on the progress of the new fire station.
    • Administrative Department – City Clerk/Treasurer Chasity Whetstone – No report.
  • Council Reports
    • Councilmember Clint Burns – No report.
    • Councilmember Tim McRae – No report.
    • Mayor Pro-Tem Jeff Clendenning – Gave updates on the disc golf course being installed in the park and the multiple-road paving project. He also inquired about the website and email updates.  Mayor Willis informed him that the contractor is still working on them.
  • Old Business
    • Pet Tethering Ordinance – Councilmember Hamby was absent, so Mayor Willis recommended leaving the business on the table until the next council meeting. He asked the wishes of the council.  Mayor Pro-Tem Clendenning made a motion to leave this business on the table until the next council meeting.  – Unanimously Approved
  • New Business
    • Water Department Miscellaneous Fees – Mayor Willis announced that the council had been provided a spreadsheet with current amounts and explanations of the water department miscellaneous fees, and he explained that these fees need to be revised. The council went through each fee and determined what the charge should be.  Mayor Willis asked for a motion to implement these changes.  Mayor Pro-Tem Clendenning made a motion to adjust the water department miscellaneous fees as discussed, effective February 1, 2022.  – Unanimously Approved
  • Spirit of Weaver Committee Report – No report 
  • Mayor’s Report – Mayor Willis reported that the concrete for the splash pad should arrive this week. He announced that City Hall will be closed Monday, January 17, 2022 for Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, but Brian Bunn will be working with the city’s phone vendor to upgrade the city’s phone system.
  • Public Comments
    • Penelope Cooper, secretary for the Weaver First United Methodist Church, requested to reserve the entire city park on July 17, 2022 for the church’s one hundred forty-fifth (145th) anniversary. Mayor Willis directed Ms. Cooper to contact the meeting center staff to make the reservation.  He agreed to waive the rental fee, but informed her the church will be required to pay the employee for the four (4) hours reservation.
