Calhoun County, AL – Former Cider Ridge pro back in familiar territory as Player Engagement Consultant for three southern PGA sections

Doug Wert has been living his dream working with the PGA of America and now he’s getting to do it a little closer to home. The former Cider Ridge pro has been with the PGA for the last five years and recently was installed as the new Player Engagement Consultant in the Gulf States PGA, which includes the Georgia, Alabama-Northwest Florida and Gulf States sections. He had been serving in the same capacity for the Middle Atlantic, Tri-State, Western New York and Carolinas section.
“It’s good to be back in the South,” said Wert, whose family has maintained a home in Oxford while he traveled. “I’ve already been spending time in the area some, but it’s just great to be back closer to home.” As a Player Engagement Consultant, Wert will spend time with golf professionals helping them enhance operations through various programs for players from the beginning junior to seasoned adults. Among those programs are Drive, Chip and Putt, the PGA Junior League, the National High School Golf Association, the Collegiate Club Golf Association and the Adult City Tour.
“I have to say in my 35 years in the golf business my last five probably have been some of the most enjoyable,” Wert said. “I always wanted to work for the PGA of American and now that I get to do that and help golf professionals grow the game, which is something I always enjoyed personally, it married everything I enjoy about working in the golf business.”
