Alexandria, AL – A 16-year-old Alexandria resident has died following a single-vehicle crash that occurred Friday night in eastern Calhoun County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
The crash occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday, June 26, along Vineyard Road near Lowimoore Road, approximately six miles east of Ohatchee.
According to ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division, the juvenile was driving a 2007 Jeep Cherokee when the vehicle left the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. The Jeep struck an embankment before overturning.
Investigators reported that the teen was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.
Emergency responders transported the critically injured teen to a local area hospital for treatment. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, the juvenile later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced deceased.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no additional injuries have been reported.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has not released the identity of the juvenile at this time. The agency stated that nothing further is currently available as troopers with the Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
ALEA routinely reminds motorists that wearing a seat belt is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a traffic collision. The investigation into Friday night’s fatal crash remains ongoing.
