Washington D.C. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has directly secured $2 million in federal funding for Cleburne and Choctaw counties through the Senate’s passage of the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Act.
The legislation is part of a broader federal appropriations package and will now return to the U.S. House of Representatives for a final vote before being sent to President Donald Trump’s desk for consideration and potential signature into law.
Of the total funding secured, $1 million has been designated specifically for infrastructure improvements in Cleburne County. According to details released with the announcement, the funds will be allocated to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to replace the bridge over Muscadine Creek. The project is intended to address infrastructure needs and enhance roadway safety in the county.
An additional $1 million included in the appropriations measure is earmarked for road improvements to County Road 9 in Choctaw County.
In a statement, Senator Britt said the funding would support critical infrastructure upgrades.
“I am proud to have directly secured $2 million for Cleburne and Choctaw Counties in this appropriations bill,” Britt said. “This funding will provide crucial infrastructure updates for both counties, creating safer and more secure communities.”
If approved by the House and signed into law, the funding would move forward through ALDOT for implementation of the specified projects. Local and state transportation officials will oversee project planning and execution once the appropriations process is finalized.
