PELL CITY, AL — Alabama Power hosted its Safe-T-Zone safety education program today, Wednesday, August 6, at the Pell City Municipal Complex. The one-hour event brought together Alabama Power line workers and local first responders for an interactive training focused on electrical safety.
Designed for firefighters, police officers, and volunteer responders, the Safe-T-Zone program uses a custom-built trailer equipped to simulate real-life electrical hazards with both primary and secondary voltage, including up to 14,400 volts. Attendees observed live demonstrations illustrating the dangers of overhead and underground power lines.
Key safety topics included:
-
Risks of pulling a meter during a house fire
-
Substation fire hazards
-
Power lines on vehicles
-
Generator backfeed risks
-
Step potential dangers
-
Responding to downed power lines
The session concluded with a Q&A where first responders engaged directly with licensed and experienced Alabama Power line workers.
Safe-T-Zone is part of Alabama Power’s ongoing efforts to support and educate first responders throughout its service territory, helping to ensure safer emergency responses involving electrical infrastructure.
