Calhoun County 4-H Teams Compete in State Livestock Skillathon at Auburn

Calhoun County, AL – Calhoun County 4-H members competed in the State Livestock Skillathon on Friday, January 23, held at the Auburn Beef Unit. Youth from across Alabama participated in the event, which tests knowledge and skills related to livestock identification, quality assurance, and evaluation.

Calhoun County was represented by both senior and junior 4-H teams, with participants earning multiple team and individual placements across categories.

In the Senior 4-H division, Calhoun County placed 5th Overall Team, earning:

  • 5th Team Identification

  • 5th Team Quality Assurance

  • 2nd Team Evaluation

Senior individual results included:

  • Abbi Cone: 1st in Evaluation, 9th in Quality Assurance, and 10th Overall Individual

  • Ella Kate Hegeman: 8th in Evaluation

  • Ethan Cone: 6th in Evaluation

In the Junior division, Calhoun County 4-H participants also recorded strong finishes.

Ana Kate Tucker’s team results included:

  • 5th Team Identification

  • 5th Team Quality Assurance

  • 3rd Team Evaluation

  • 5th Overall Team

Ellie Andrews’ team results included:

  • 2nd Team Identification

  • 4th Team Quality Assurance

  • 5th Team Evaluation

  • 2nd Overall Team

The State Livestock Skillathon is designed to enhance youth understanding of livestock production, animal science, and industry standards. Participation provides hands-on educational experience while encouraging teamwork and individual skill development.
