BIRMINGHAM, AL — Eighteen students from Calhoun County were among the hundreds of graduates recognized during Alabama Connections Academy’s Class of 2025 commencement ceremony, held Wednesday, May 14, at the Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham. The virtual public school honored 677 spring graduates, along with 118 winter graduates, in front of an audience of approximately 4,000 family members, friends, and educators.
The following students from Calhoun County were recognized for completing their K-12 education through the online academy:

“It has been a privilege to see the Class of 2025 thrive and demonstrate their commitment and determination to achieve this significant milestone,” said Alabama Connections Academy school leader Jodie Dean. “Our students come to us from all over the state, including incredible young people from communities like Calhoun County, and we are proud of each and every one of them.”
The Class of 2025 earned approximately $3 million in scholarships and awards. Many graduates, including those from Calhoun County, have plans that range from attending college or entering the workforce, to joining the military or pursuing vocational training. According to school data, 39% of graduates plan to attend a two- or four-year institution, while 33% will go directly into the workforce.
Dania Alzoubi, one of the school’s top five graduates, spoke at the ceremony, sharing how Alabama Connections Academy empowered her to take on dual enrollment, create a volunteer club, and launch a girls-in-computer-science initiative. Principal Kelly Flores also addressed the graduates, and fellow graduate Adylene Harrison performed the national anthem.
Alabama Connections Academy, a tuition-free, full-time online public school authorized by the Limestone County School District, serves students statewide and continues to grow. The 2025-26 school year will mark the program’s second year of offering a College and Early Career Readiness curriculum, designed to integrate academics with real-world career paths in fields like IT, healthcare, and business.
