Anniston, AL – The City of Anniston has released an update on the ongoing development of the Chief Ladiga Trail Extension. While the new trail section is currently open and in use, city officials are reminding the public that several key enhancements and final touches are still in progress.
In the coming months, new traffic control and way-finding signage will be added along the trail to help users navigate more easily and safely. Trail markers and other safety-focused features are also part of this update.
Crews will begin applying the final wearing surface to portions of the trail, which may require temporary closures. The City advises trail users to exercise caution in the meantime, as manhole covers and other elements may still protrude slightly above the trail surface. Closure notifications will be posted on the City’s website, social media, and the Chief Ladiga webpage.
A new restroom facility at Michael Tucker Park is nearing completion and is anticipated to open within the next month. Following that, a parking lot improvement project will commence, which may temporarily reduce parking availability in the area.
The trail section near M&H Valve remains temporarily closed but is expected to reopen soon. A clearly marked detour route is currently in place to guide trail users around the closed segment.
City officials expressed their appreciation for the community’s continued support and patience during the final phase of this transformative recreational project. The remainder of the Chief Ladiga Trail remains fully open and accessible for all to enjoy.
