Oxford, AL — Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones is set to speak at a sold-out Juneteenth “Community Dialogue” Dinner in Oxford on Wednesday, June 19, 2025. The event, hosted at the historic Hubbard’s Off Main restaurant, aims to foster a civil, fact-based discussion across party lines and provide attendees with an opportunity to engage directly with the former senator.
Organized by the Calhoun County Democrats, the evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a dinner service featuring Southern classics such as meatloaf, fried chicken, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese. Seating is limited to 100 guests, and all tickets have now been claimed.
Doug Jones, who served as U.S. Senator for Alabama from 2018 to 2021, is known for his bipartisan legislative approach and for his historic role in prosecuting two of the Ku Klux Klan members responsible for the 1963 bombing of Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church. His book, Bending Toward Justice, chronicles that case and the broader civil rights movement.
The event will feature remarks from Jones followed by a question-and-answer session, during which he will listen to personal experiences and concerns from attendees, particularly about how current federal policies are impacting daily life. Organizers emphasize that the goal is a respectful and informative conversation that bridges political divides.
Jones, now a Senior Distinguished Fellow at the Center for American Progress and of Counsel at ArentFox Schiff, continues to be active in public affairs and legal advocacy. He resides in Birmingham with his wife Louise, their dogs Scout and Dakota, and is a father and grandfather.
As an added feature, attendees will have a chance to win a door prize: an autographed copy of Bending Toward Justice and a photo opportunity with Senator Jones.
