GADSDEN, AL — Gadsden State Community College President Alan Smith has been recognized as an Exceptional Educator for 2025 by Business Alabama, an honor that celebrates education leaders nominated by their peers for significant contributions to student success and workforce development.
The award comes during a historic year for Gadsden State as the institution marks its 100th anniversary. Smith has been instrumental in leading the college through this centennial milestone while overseeing major initiatives in career and technical education.
Throughout his tenure, Smith has focused on expanding programs aligned with high-demand careers and strengthening collaborative relationships with K-12 schools, local businesses and regional industries. His background includes extensive experience in workforce development, capital projects and community engagement.
Smith’s educational credentials include undergraduate degrees in agricultural business and economics and education from Auburn University, along with a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Alabama.
The Business Alabama Exceptional Educators program recognizes education professionals across Alabama whose leadership advances student outcomes, workforce preparedness and the state’s economic development goals.
