Learn and Burn: Enhancing Fire and Burn Safety in Calhoun County

LEARN AND BURN EVENT ALERT

Calhoun County, AL – Are you a landowner in Calhoun County, Alabama, eager to learn more about forest and wildlife habitat management, particularly the safe implementation of fire on your property? If so, mark your calendars for an upcoming event that promises to be both educational and hands-on.

Hosted by MTM, the Alabama Forestry Foundation, the Alabama Forestry Commission, and Quail Forever in Alabama, along with various partners, this Learn and Burn event in White Plains is tailored for those new to managing forests and wildlife habitats. Scheduled from March 18th to 22nd, starting at 8:00 am and concluding at 3:30 pm, this event offers a comprehensive exploration of fire and burn safety practices.

The event aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement prescribed fire effectively. Prescribed fire, when conducted properly, can be a powerful tool for managing woodlands, promoting wildlife habitats, and maintaining ecosystem health. By joining this event, landowners will gain valuable insights from forestry experts and fellow participants.

To ensure a quality learning experience for all attendees, registration is required. Limited spots are available, so be sure to RSVP promptly. You can register by visiting the following link.

Participants can expect a hands-on experience, as each person will be assigned to a burn crew managed by an Alabama Certified Burn Manager. Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to observe, ask questions, and even participate in igniting and holding a burn line across various fuels, terrains, and stand conditions.

It’s important to note that safety is paramount during this event. Participants will be required to sign a hold harmless liability disclosure/waiver on the day of the event. Additionally, attendees should be prepared to be active all day, including walking, wearing proper attire, and using hand tools under the direction of the burn crew.

As weather conditions play a significant role in prescribed fire operations, the burn day will be weather-dependent and chosen from the provided dates. Participants will receive a two-day advance notice regarding the confirmed burn day.

This event is free of charge, but space is limited. However, participants can earn PLM (Professional Logging Manager) and CFE (Certified Forester Education) credit hours. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your woodland management skills and connect with like-minded individuals and experts in the field. Secure your spot today and get ready to learn and burn safely!
