OXFORD, AL. — Oxford Health Systems has announced plans to build a new Oxford Paramedics ambulance station in West Oxford following a land donation from GC Group Holdings owner Joey Callahan.
The future emergency medical services station will be located within the Oxford Oaks development in West Oxford and is expected to improve ambulance coverage and emergency response times for residents in West Oxford, Eastaboga and Bynum.
According to Oxford Health Systems, the new substation is part of an effort to strategically position ambulances closer to the communities they serve as the area continues to experience residential and industrial growth.
Callahan, who owns GC Group Holdings and is the Alabama Republican nominee for House District 32, donated the property for the project. Before entering development, Callahan served 16 years as assistant fire chief for the City of Lincoln and worked as an emergency medical technician. He also served nine years on the Lincoln City Council.
Oxford Health Systems CEO Tom Dixon said Callahan’s background in emergency services and local government made him a strong partner for the project.
“Joey’s background in both emergency services and local government gives him a unique perspective on the needs of communities like Oxford,” Dixon said. “He understands the importance of ensuring residents have access to high-quality emergency medical care close to home. His generosity and commitment to community service have helped make this project possible, and we are extremely grateful for his support.”
Oxford Health Systems said the station is intended to help meet the needs of the rapidly expanding West Oxford area, which is expected to see continued industrial development along with more than 400 new homes in the coming years.
Dixon said partnerships between developers, local government and healthcare providers are important as communities grow and emergency service demands increase.
Oxford Health Systems thanked Callahan and GC Group Holdings for their support of the project and said additional information regarding construction timelines and station operations will be released as planning moves forward.
