PIEDMONT, AL – The Piedmont City Council met Tuesday evening for its regularly scheduled meeting, opening with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before addressing city business.
Council members approved the minutes from the previous meeting and authorized payment of city bills totaling $221,435.02.
In new business, the council reviewed a petition to vacate a portion of South Road near Cherokee Drive and Crimson Trail. Officials said the roadway is not an active or maintained street and exists primarily on maps. The request comes from adjacent property owners.
The council voted to move forward with the process, which includes publishing notice and scheduling a public hearing.
During department reports, Police Chief Nathan Johnson told the council there was no formal report but said additional information and cost estimates related to animal control services will be presented at a future meeting.
Mayor Kevin Farmer informed council members that the city has applied for a $50,000 grant for park improvements. If awarded, the council may consider adding local funds to expand the project. Proposed upgrades include accessibility features such as a handicap-accessible swing at Memorial Park.
City leaders also confirmed the park remains available for community events, including the annual car show. With no further business to address, the council voted to adjourn.
