Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University (JSU) is expanding its academic horizons by partnering with two prominent Texas colleges, Lone Star College in Houston and Dallas College in Dallas. This collaboration aims to provide a seamless transfer of academic credits and simplify the enrollment process for students who aspire to complete their degrees at JSU.

The institutions are currently in the process of formalizing their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This official framework will facilitate the transfer of students from either Lone Star College or Dallas College to JSU while ensuring a smooth transition of credits to the university.

Dr. Staci Stone, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs at JSU, expressed enthusiasm about these pioneering agreements. She stated, “These agreements with community colleges outside of Alabama are a first for Jax State, and we are excited about the new opportunities. In addition to promoting Jax State as a good option for students in Texas pursuing four-year degrees, the MOUs lay the foundation for collaboration in other areas, such as grant and research opportunities.”

By becoming a transfer partner, JSU will make information about its programs available to students interested in pursuing online or in-person degree paths at the university. This not only enhances the visibility of JSU’s academic offerings but also fosters stronger connections with college faculty and staff.

President Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. acknowledged the significance of these collaborative efforts, drawing from his own experience as a transfer student. He stated, “As a former transfer student myself, I know firsthand the importance of collaboration between colleges and universities. We look forward to working with Lone Star College and Dallas College on transfer opportunities for their students, as well as scholarship opportunities for their employees seeking online undergraduate and graduate degrees.”

Lone Star College, located in the bustling city of Houston, stands as the largest institution of higher learning in the Houston area, with over 80,000 students enrolled across its eight campuses and 14 centers. Meanwhile, Dallas College, the largest community college system in Texas, serves more than 100,000 students. These partnerships mark the beginning of JSU’s outreach to Texas colleges, with plans to establish MOUs with additional institutions and participate in college fairs throughout the state.

As JSU expands its academic network and strengthens its relationships with colleges and universities across state lines, it opens the door to a broader spectrum of opportunities for students seeking a smooth transition into their four-year degree programs, and for educational institutions looking to collaborate and share resources. The partnership between JSU, Lone Star College, and Dallas College embodies a commitment to enhancing educational pathways and fostering academic growth.
