Alexandria’s Pressley Slaton in the East Alabama Sports Today Class 4A-6A All-Calhoun County player of the year, and Alexandria coach Brian Hess is the coach of the year. Slaton, now a two-time player of the year, batted .427 with a .497 on-base percentage, 14 home runs, 22 doubles and 69 RBIs. In the circle, she finished 22-7 with a 2.305 ERA, 1.256 WHIP, 216 strikeouts and 79 walks in 194 1/3 innings pitched. Hess guided the Valley Cubs to a 41-11-3 record, county and area titles and to the final four of the Class 4A state tournament, doing so against a brutal schedule.
